Whelped January 17, this outcrossed litter is the culmination of years of research, collaboration, brain-picking, and hand-wringing, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The pairing brings social, confident and sound pups I trust will grow into reliable backcountry partners, superb hiking buddies, dynamic companions and versatile working dogs. Pups are mostly black and clear of known mutations by testing and parentage. The litter eCOI is 1% and all pups will be Embark profiled prior to placement.

This litter will be home-reared outside of Bellingham, WA, and ready for their new homes at the end of March. Inquiries are invited from those seeking an active and engaged canine companion. Both novice and experienced owners, families and dog sport enthusiasts are encouraged to reach out. Peaslee’s Peakbagger

Named for her early prowess in the water and to honor her grand-dam Minnow, Trout is an athletic 3.5 year old who leaves a wake wherever she goes.  As a puppy, her “hold my beer” attitude and demand for center stage made her an undeniable keeper, if only because I couldn’t manage to pawn her off.  Lucky for me, she quickly developed the sensibility to apply her confidence and grit, and has ingratiated herself among my all-time favorites.  At work, Trout is a pleasure to train and true partner, always bringing maximum drive and focus to the task at hand.  While birdy and very keen to work, she is thoughtful and sensible, and she has developed into an aces gundog with limited “on the job” training.  At home, Trout is a delightfully livable dog — quick to settle, reliable in the house (save for some laundry re-arranging), and a champion snuggler.  Trout is petite and athletic but not lacking substance.  She is well-angulated and excels on the move with a level topline and tail set.  Balanced, adaptable, tractable and stable, Trout is everything that I seek in a Flat-Coat, and I’m thrilled to have found a way to perpetuate her.  OFA ‘Excellent’ hips, OFA clear eyes, clear of all known mutations. COI 29%.

Trout, Flat-coated Retriever

BroDude, my GoDude, is a dream herdy companion who has exceeded all my highest expectations.  I intended for him to be my backcountry adventure buddy, and he certainly has risen to meet that challenge, skipping over talus fields to bag 14ers, riding shotgun in the packraft, setting the skin track, and cowboy camping under the stars.  But his superb social skills and general stability demanded he not be relegated to life behind the scenes.  Bro is good-natured with all creatures, confident in new places, a great traveler, and an easy house dog.  While tagging along on upland hunts, he picked up on the bird-finding mission, has multiple flushes to his credit, and exhibits no sound sensitivity.  While he possesses the quick-learning intelligence one expects from a herdy fellow, along with instincts to keep the ‘trievers in line, his wit and drive are tempered with a healthy sense of humor and “get along” attitude.  He would have made a great first-timer’s dog and an aces working dog, but I’m so grateful he’s mine and so excited to have one of his pups join my pack soon. Bro hails from the fifth generation of Mary Peaslee’s Shepherd’s Way kennel, carefully selecting for stability, health, soundness and genetic diversity.  OFA ‘Good’ hips, clear of testable heritable diseases. COI 3%.
