A genetic rescue program
for Flat-coated Retrievers

Health. Longevity. Conservation.

Genetic profiling advancements coupled with health data analysis have confirmed long-held sentiments about the breed’s poor longevity and population health. Fortunately, they also point us down a path towards breed preservation.

This genetic rescue program unites historic breeding strategies with the latest science, improving genetic diversity and health while preserving type. We’re meeting a complex problem with a simple, time-tested solution.

After years of careful planning, we’re excited to progress into the execution phase with our first litters. While these outcrossed pups will prove invaluable to future, back-crossed generations, they also promise to be excellent canine companions and working dogs.

The Flatcoat Conservation Project is the passion project of a few dedicated Flatcoat enthusiasts, but we’re eager to share and we invite collaboration. There are many ways to participate:

  • raise a litter or provide stud services

  • open your home to an out/backcross pup

  • be an advocate

  • share your expertise

  • keep an open mind

Let us know how we can include you!
